Go-karts have in the past, do presently, and will continue to, provide entertainment for the whole family. Before the original model kart was built, Frankenstein karts were constructed out of available materials. In 1956 Art Ingels constructed what I consider the original model kart.
Fitness is essential for a healthy lifestyle and is especially easy to come by here in Montreal. In the past, exercise has been mundane at best; an hour on the treadmill was a daunting task, and lifting free weights has become too routine for interest. From 1979 to 1995, the Montreal Canadiens and the Quebec Nordiques fought, what was dubbed, the Battle of Quebec. For fifteen years these two hockey teams divided the province through their on ice tilts. Everybody took sides and family were divided as their favorite warriors battled courageously on the ice. Hockey fans all across "La Belle Province" hoped their side would prevail so they would have a mental advantage at school or at work the following morning. More than a normal hockey rivalry, the Battle of Quebec was a social phenomenon that greatly influenced the province during the 1980s and the first part of the 1990s.
Far from the hustle and bustle of the city at the top of steep, narrow streets, one of the city's most beautiful gems is found in the exclusive neighbourhood of Westmount. It may only be a five-minute drive from popular Mont-Royal; but Summit Park is unknown to many. While it mainly serves as a dog park for local residents, it is popular with bird-watchers and hikers alike.
For the last two years, numerous rumors flying around the inner circle of the National Hockey League say that the return of a team to Quebec City seems more and more likely. Mayor Régis Labeaume and a group of local businessmen called "J'ai ma place" are currently working on a plan to provide the city with a new arena while media mogul Pierre-Karl Péladeau clearly showed his interest in buying a team and moving it to Québec City; some rumors went as far as pretending that Péladeau already had a deal in place to buy the Atlanta Thrashers. Montreal Canadiens president Pierre Boivin even said that his team would support Quebec's bid for an NHL team. When hearing that, many Montreal fans are skeptical and fear that a new team in Quebec City would be bad omen for their team. On the contrary, I believe that the return of the highest level of professional hockey to "La Vieille Capitale" would benefit the Montreal Canadiens and the city of Montreal greatly. In fact, Montreal and its hockey team would gain economical, marketing and sports related benefits.
Cross-country skiing is an excellent sport for Montrealers to engage in while combating the cold weather from the north, and the blistering winds from the St. Lawrence. Many citizens who live in snowy climates can succumb to a host of ailments, both physical and mental due to inactivity or seasonal depression. Finding an enjoyable outdoor winter activity in order to exercise is a beneficial way to stay positive during the winter. After all, it's usually very sunny and bright, but the weather can be freezing cold. Physically, cross-country skiing requires some of the highest levels of endurance in the world of sports, as people utilize more muscles all over their bodies while participating than other sports (Gaskill 1).
In and around Montreal there are numerous go-karting faculties. There is SRA karting international, Go Kart Double G, Karting Doudou, Action 500, and Kart-O-Mania.The first four go-karting facilities mentioned are only open during the summer season, as they are outdoor facilities. As a result, this comparative analysis will focus on analyzing Action 500 and Kart-O-Mania as they are indoor facilities that are open all year around. Being open all year around automatically qualifies them to be 'better' than the outdoor facilities in that they are accessible during the winter. When I say 'better', I intend one to understand better for their publics. Hence, I will begin with a description of Action 500 and will follow with an account of Kart-O-Mania. I will than compare certain aspects of each go-karting facility, namely available go-karts, participation costs, and track safety, to determine which facility is 'better' for their public, and in which manner.
