We're looking to hear about your experiences with the Montreal Police. In a city with an annual anti police brutality riot there have got to be some strong opinions. Good or bad, how do you rate the city's boys in blue? Tell us why.

I had a good experience with the police in Montreal. I think they are on the lookout all the time, whether they need to or not, they are driving through the city and watching all citizens. Good job police!!! Heads up for you!!!
Montreal Police department recently confirmed that they ask a daily 18 ticket quota to their cops. What is wrong with them ?This is so wrong. They use this concept to enforce the law. They are constantly looking to rebuke Montreal citizens for nothing; 45 in a 40 km/h speed zone, a broken headlight or any other insignificant situation like these occur every day ! This behavior has a negative impact on our society. Seriously, now how could you trust a cop that gives you a ticket because he's forced to and not because you did something illegal ?

Police department should be friends of the citizens and foe of the criminals. Personal, I don't Montreal Police does great job, but compare to other North America city like Toronto or New York, our police force is fine. There is something wrong with our legal system. The police officers are busy with their 18 tickets and left less time to do their really jobs. I saw things happened on St-Catherine street twice. One guy who looks like homeless broke a car window and took the GPS. Other time I saw one guy stole from a grocery store and the casher tried to catch him. No police showed up. on St-Catherine.
The Montreal PD are surprisingly vanilla compared to other police departments. There's not enough of them to keep their eye on everything all the time either (which is excellent).
I am actually glad I only get to hear two or three police brutality stories per YEAR. Putting it in perspective, I would rather have few among hundreds overstepping their boundaries instead of having them all being corrupt to their bones (like in other countries). They do their job whenever they can as far as I have seen — I have never seen a policeman not doing his job when presented with the right situation.
I would actually be worried if the number of police brutality cases reached dozens per day (all year long), but since they don't... I am not.
It's amazing how people focus on the tickets. There's over 4000 cops in Montreal, do people think all of them have 16 tickets to hand out? Really, be serious. I did my research after I heard the news, and the 16 ticket quota is only concerning the traffic cops and there are only about 200 accross the island and they are never all on duty at the same time. So... I think the tickets are needed because there are a big number of drivers out there that need to see the flashing lights in their rear view mirrors to obey the law. Did you know that in the 90s, there was close to no sustained traffic enforcement in Montreal and tourist brochures and travel books warned out of town drivers and pedestrians to look for red light runners before crossing on a green, because Montrealers were notorious for that. Now, that's bad!
Now death rates in Montreal droped dramaticaly since traffic officers came back. It also translates into savings in healthcare and public insurance paid out to injured parties and their families.
For the hard work of 200 cops, that's great. Now if we could only do the same thing with street gangs.
You guys are wrong, and will need to not be so challenging around the writer. This site appears to be to be devoted to stating their own thoughts and opinions, which most of us have. I detest when folks strive to talk unhealthy about somebody simply because their opinion differs from other people. Have a look at all by yourself earlier than you are trying to talk about another person.
From the other comments which can be on this page it can be clear that you'll find a lot of different opinions on this matter, but I like the way you view the condition. I personally didn't examine it like that, so I appreciate you bringing this out. I appreciate you for this, it was an incredibly good report. I glimpse ahead for your future content.
