Montreal is a wonderful and vibrant place to live. But sometimes people want to escape from the city's noise and action. There are quite a few places right off the island, or even on the island, to go to be in the open space and unwind. Where's your favourite place to get away?

I really love the little town of Beaconsfield on the West Island. It is so cute and has such a quaint, community feel. The little town centre has nice shops and adorable cafe's. It can be quite pricey so I only go to windowshop and unwind with a latte afterward, but I love to get a break from all the noise and traffic in the city.
We love to follow the historical "Chemin Patriote" along the Richelieu River. It does wind around to st therese but we haven't done that. It follows the route of a band of patriots who wanted to overthrow the English colonists. The river is lined with pleasant picnic spots or quaint restaurants and cafes. There are historical markers along the way, which tell about the battles, the graveyards, and the houses of important people. It is really entertaining and very relaxing. At one point there is a small ferry to take you across to the other side of the river. Ahhh la belle province.
Personally, I just like getting out of the Montreal area all-together. Sometimes I go down the US either Plattsburgh or Burlington, mostly I go down to the states for shopping but often times I also go hiking in the mountains or at Ausable Chasm. If not then I tend to over to Ottawa, mostly for this one restaurant and then I try and go to see a museum.
In the Montreal though I like going to the Iles-de-Boucherville. It's this really nice "national" parc in the middle of the St.Lawrence River near the Louis-Hypolite Tunnel. It's a really nice place and there's a lot of trails to walk or bike, with these really nice spots to picnic. http://www.sepaq.com/pq/bou/
I also enjoy getting out of Montreal all-together when it's available. I went to Ottawa once, left early in the morning and came back late at night, and it was great. On the country side, I went to Rawdon with a friend of mine. Rawdon is a little town about an hour from Montreal but it's NOTHING like Montreal. It was nice going there and pedal boating and just relaxing a bit and forget about the stress of the city!
There are so many nice places where one can go to spend a relaxing day, even in Montreal. In town I usually go to Parc Lafontaine, in front of Rachelle st. or to Westmount Park on Sherbrooke west. They are both very nice and not as crowded as Mount Royal. Out of town there are also very nice little places that it is possible to visit in a day trip: Mont Tremblant, St. Sauveur, Rawdon in the Launadiere region where you can also admire the Dorwin and Manchester falls, and Magog in the Eastern-Township with its beautiful Lake Memphremagog.
I am another person who likes to get out of Montreal all together. A really great place to go for a day, in the summer though, is Plattsburgh. There are beautiful beaches; the water is really nice, not like the Oka beach. It’s a small city, you can walk around and go shopping, there are so many different boutiques. There are also a lot of nice restaurants downtown, most of them are small and quaint. If you’re looking for a day of relaxing, Plattsburgh’s a good choice.
In the summer, I like to enjoy some quiet time with my boyfriend on the lakeshore in Lachine. There is a Dairy Queen, so I can savour my ice cream right in front of the water! There is a park with many tables where you can sit and simply enjoy. Most of the time, there are some ducks that you can feed! For winter time, the old port is a nice place to walk and you can do ice skating as well which can be relaxing.
Well, the view of mont royal all together is beautiful to me though it may be crowded I still find a good time there, especially that I don't live too far from there.
Quite a few individuals think it is a subject that is certainly completely based mostly on individual opinion, I've to disagree. I want to personally thank you for spending some time to jot down how you come to feel about this matter, and doing it public to all people searching at your website.
