Whether you love Le Gym at Concordia, have a membership at a high-class gym downtown, visit your neighborhood YMCA, or do pilates in your livingroom, where do you like to work out?
For about a year, I've had a membership at the Dollard-des-ormeaux civic center, which is located in the west island of Montreal, but I hadn't been motivated enough to go every week. So I found out about these aerobic classes (booty camp and zumba)that are offered at the same place, and they are so fun that I'm always worried of missing a class! The work out is intense yet very relaxing at the same time, and it really mitigates the level of school stress. And also, they're very cheap for both residents of the west island and non-residents.
I worked out a few times at the Downtown YMCA and it's great. Although a bit expensive (around $40/month for students#, it gives access to their gym facility, indoor pool and sauna, classes #dance, yoga, kickboxing, and all types of exercise classes) and also to their gym where people go and play volleyball, basketball, and other various sports.
I highly recommend it!
I work out at Le Gym. As an ex-Energie Cardio member, I highly recommand it. $60 for the whole semester... it's nothing compared to what you would pay in a chain. And the facilities are great! Never crowded, good music and super clean!
I have a membership at 'Fit for Life' a gym located on the northern part of St-Laurent near little Italy, but I hardly have the time to work out this time of year. One of the things I enjoy about the gym is the fact its open 24 hours, but I don't find the staff there is very friendly.
Currently I am a Le Gym person out of convenience. The classes are good (spinning, abs and thighs, pilates) though it is always so busy and you have to wait. Right now, I am taking the Fitness Instructor Training at the Downtown YMCA (http://tinyurl.com/25jlv6p) and I am so impressed with the facilities there that next semester I think lI'm going to get a Y pass. It is a little farther than I usually go, but I think it will be worth it. Can me an convert.
I've been taking karate classes at Le Gym since January this year. I haven't really been to other work-out places, so I can't compare, but I like it because it's affordable and conveniently located. Plus, the instructor is great.
I have recently started working out at a gym close to my house. It is called AérobiePlus and it is right next to Honoré-Beaugrand metro. I chose it for its proximity (I do not want to go downtown every time I want to work out) and its low cost (100$ a year). I have not attended any classes yet (like spinning and yoga and everything) but I tried the variety of machines. It is a practical and inexpensive way to work out for those who live in the East end of Montréal.
I bought a membership at Le Gym last semester and I even got a locker on campus to be able to bring a change of clothes and not carry it around all day long. I haven't gone once! I was all exited by the classes that they offer and the facilities but now I am convinced that it is not the equipment it's more the motivation and consistency that counts. I've started working out at home doing mainly body-weight exercises and I workout more frequently and consistently than during anytime in the past when I've had a gym membership. The up side is that it saves me so much time and there less obstacles to overcome in order to get to my workout space but the down side is that I have to coordinate my workouts with my roommates’ schedules so not to disturb them.
Currently, I have a membership at Energie Cardio, it is 7 minutes away from my house (by car). I like working out there but it is so expensive, it cost me 450$ for the year and the worst part is that they gave me a student discount. I live in a small town, there isn’t a lot of choices. There are no independent gyms, they are all chains so they probably all coast the same amount for a year subscription. The gym is big and clean, it still gets crowded sometimes though and I hate waiting for the machine I want to use. I guess that’s what happens when you live in a small town. I can’t wait to live downtown so I can subscribe at Concordia’s gym, there are so many classes you can take. I want to start taking karate, I already have a blue belt and I would like to eventually have my black belt.
I mainly enjoy doing yoga in the convenience and comfort of my own home. Between working full time and going to school full time in the evening I find it hard to designate a time to go to a gym. However, I do work out almost 4 times a week on a consistent basis. I watch a video called P90X, which is an intense almost two hour yoga video. This video will whip anyone into shape making them lean and very flexible. When I began the program I found it quite hard and lost my motivation within the first few times trying it. I thought to myself that I am not flexible and how can I even begin to bend over and touch my toes. However, my yoga expert friend told me to do it at my own level and slowly but surely you will become more flexible and lean. I began to really dedicate myself to yoga and found my friend to be correct. Within a month I was much more flexible and I was quite in shape. As I saw my progress I made a promise to myself that I never had to go to the gym and that I will always try to keep in shape no matter how busy a schedule I have.
I have a membership at ymca, I love the yoga classes! very helpful after a long stressful day I run there to get my excercise "on"!
